Mumtalakat and ARP Group Plan AI-Native Wholesale Bank in Bahrain
Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund and ARP Group are partnering to launch an AI-native wholesale bank serving institutional clients regionally and internationally.
Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and ARP Group announced a partnership to establish an artificial intelligence-native wholesale bank in Bahrain, according to a statement released on the sidelines of Gateway Gulf 2026 in Manama.
The proposed institution is designed to serve institutional clients with both regional and international banking needs, positioning Bahrain as a hub for next-generation financial infrastructure in the Gulf region. The announcement reflects a broader trend of sovereign capital being deployed alongside private partners to accelerate financial technology adoption in the Middle East.

Mumtalakat, which manages the kingdom's non-oil and gas assets, has increasingly pursued strategic investments aimed at diversifying Bahrain's economy. Pairing with ARP Group for an AI-native banking venture signals an intent to embed advanced technology at the core of the institution's operations from inception, rather than retrofitting legacy systems.
Wholesale banks differ from retail institutions in that they focus on large-scale transactions and services for corporations, government entities, and other financial intermediaries rather than individual consumers. An AI-native design suggests the bank's core processes — from credit analysis to compliance — would be built around machine learning and automated decision-making frameworks.
The announcement was made at Gateway Gulf 2026, an annual forum that draws regional and international business and government leaders to Bahrain to discuss investment and economic development. Continue reading at All Financial Services & Investing.
